Playground: Arts & Disability Ireland and axis: Ballymun residency award for performing artists with disabilities

Posted: 26 November, 2015

Arts & Disability Ireland and axis: Ballymun are delighted to announce the second round of their performing arts residency, Playground for Artists with Disabilities. This residency is designed to support the creation of new work and the professional development of performing artists with disabilities.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 26th November, 2015.

Following several successful residencies across various disciplines, ADI and axis are working together to offer a residency and bursary to an artist with a disability to support them in their professional development as performing artists.

Last year’s awardees Stefanie Preissner and Fintan Kelly used their awards in different ways. Stefanie took the time to develop new writing while Fintan Kelly availed of the Dance Studio for intensive workshops with his collaborators to further develop an existing piece of work.

What does the residency award include?

Studio space (shared studio space in axis; Dance Studio, Recording Studio, Art Studio and Theatre. Subject to requirements and availability).

Office space and administrative support (this can be included upon request).

Presentation/Performance space (technical and presentation support to be agreed in consultation with the awardee).

An artists bursary of €5,000 (to include any materials and/or production costs).

Access budget of up to €2,000 (to facilitate the awardees access requirements).

What artforms are eligible?
Artists with disabilities working in the following art forms are eligible to apply: circus, dance, music, opera, street arts/spectacle, theatre, and trad arts.

Timeline and application info
The residency will commence in January 2016 and the duration, spaces and access requirements will be mapped out with the awardee, ADI and axis staff from the outset.

Awardees are expected to engage in on-going communication and feedback with the partner organisations. They will be asked to provide information on their work/progress to be shared through the partners’ websites, social networks and other platforms. This will be discussed with the artist in advance.
