Culture Night: TILT: Remixed by Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company online

18 Sep 2020, 6:00 pm - 11:30 pm (Past)

West Cork Arts Centre and Uillinn Dance

Tilt is an aerial dance theatre show from Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company, centred around a very versatile pole that flies, falls, and circles as a metaphor for instability and chance in an unstable world. When everything is off kilter, what remains?

Tender and triumphant, Tilt highlights both the fragility of the human body and the endurance of the human spirit. Including aerial, contemporary dance and song, Tilt is an insightful and surprising show that offers both humour and pathos.

Conceived as an idea in 2019, Tilt has become ever more relevant in our current situation.  An outdoor live performance of Tilt was originally planned for Culture Night in Skibbereen. To adhere to new restrictions for outdoor gatherings of over 15 people, the incredible team at Croí Glan Dance Company now present TILT: Remixed, coupling an online programme of live footage sharing Tilt from the studio at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre from 6:00pm – 6:30pm on the evening of Friday 18th September, followed by footage projected onto the wall of the centre in a 15 minute loop 8:30pm – 11:30pm.

Cork-based Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company was founded in 2006 and produces performances with professional dancers with and without physical disabilities, creating cutting edge productions which tour nationally and internationally. Company co-founder, artistic director, choreographer and dancer Tara Brandel started training in pole aged 50 on a dare and got totally hooked. Tilt is her 2nd pole-based choreography. The pole in Tilt was created by Tara’s brother-in-law Barnaby (Barnz) Munn, whose working life encompasses both traditional ship-rigging and being Creative Director of trailblazing UK circus company Pirates of the Carabina.

Tilt is a Croí Glan production.
Directed and performed by Tara Brandel
Music composition by Niall O’Carroll
Rigging design by Barnaby Munn

Created with funding from Arts Council of Ireland, Cork County Council, Cork City Council Arts Office and the support of Cork Midsummer Festival, THISISPOPBABY, Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre and Firkin Crane.
