Visual Art: Mary Duffy’s ‘From Left Field’ at Kenmare Butter Market
17 Jun - 22 Jul 2023 (Past)
Mary Duffy is a visual artist based in Wicklow. Graduating from the National College of Art and Design in 1983, she has been a practising artist for over four decades now, exploring various media, including painting, photography, and performance.
Inspired by the sea or wetlands near her home in County Wicklow, some of her painting leans towards abstraction, and most is easily recognisable as landscape or seascape.
Since the early 1980s, Mary Duffy has presented her work across the globe, from San Francisco to New York, from London to Tokyo. In Ireland, she has participated in the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibitions and is a long-time member of the Dublin Painting & Sketching Club. She has received multiple Visual Arts Bursaries from the Arts Council of Ireland. The first of these was in 1989, and the most recent in 2020. Her work is represented in the Arts Council of Ireland collection, the National Self-Portrait Collection, the National University of Ireland, Galway, and Wexford County Council.
She has won many awards, including an honorary doctorate from the National University of Ireland for her seminal contribution to the international Disability Arts movement (2003). Mary Duffy’s own favourite accolade is the Artists’ Choice Prize, awarded to her at Wexford Art in the Open Festival (2013). Established in 2007, this is the largest plein air painting festival in Europe.
‘From Left Field’ at Kenmare Butter Market will be her 14th solo show.
Opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday 11am – 5pm, Sunday 12pm – 4pm
