Visual Art and Music: A Moving Adventure at Ballina Arts Centre

1 Dec 2016 (Past)

Ballina Arts Centre

To celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Ballina Arts Centre is presenting two projects supported by Mayo County Council’s UPSTART programme: Sound Warriors, a drumming and percussion project by Western Care’s Ridgepool Training Centre, and Around the World in So Many Ways, a film project by Scannán Technologies and Luisne Art Project.

Sound Warriors is a percussion programme, facilitated and designed by percussionist Anthony McNamee. The aim of the project was to empower members of the Ridgepool Training Centre to learn some new musical and performance skills, and then to put these skills into practice by performing a piece of original music using drums and percussion instruments to deliver a performance of the work.

Around the World in So Many Ways is a filmmaking project by Luisne Art Project (Ballinrobe) and Scannán Technologies (Ballina) on the theme of: ‘the movement of people around the world’.

There will be a screening of new film and an exhibition of drawings, paintings and photographs from the making of the film.

There will also be special guest speakers and refreshments will be served. After the opening event the film will continue to be shown as part of the exhibition.

Admission free, all welcome.

UPSTART is an initiative of Mayo County Council Arts Office and Ballina Arts Centre acknowledges the support received under this scheme this year.

Official Launch by Joanne Grehan, Director of Services, Planning, Economic & Community Development, Mayo County Council.
