Theatre: Beards by H K Ní Shioradáin at the New Theatre
29 Oct - 6 Nov 2024 (Past)
Here ye, Queer ye! Fresh off their 5-star smash hit Boyfriends, LemonSoap Productions presents their production, Beards!
A farcical tale of hope and resilience, Beards by HK Ní Shioradáin is a rollicking new musical comedy premiering this autumn at The New Theatre and taking us all the way back to the Middle Ages.
To avoid being burnt at the stake for being gay, medieval siblings Daryl and Erika marry each other’s lovers. When one of the lesbians falls pregnant via immaculate conception, both couples must battle their own conflicting feelings as they soon find out that they are about to co-parent the second coming of Christ. LemonSoap Productions presents this weird and wacky exploration of queer families, belonging, and a very special second coming.
Beards runs from Tuesday 29 October and had been extended until 6 November. Tickets are available at thenewtheatre.com

‘If you’re looking for an offbeat, sacrilegious musical… then look no further.” – No More Workhorse
“What did gay people do in the Middle Ages? This hilarious musical has a guess.” – The Independant
“Beards’ brilliant and irreverent queering shows a surprising level of dramatic and theatrical inventiveness from so young a company. One whose towering talents far surpass the learning curve they’re currently on. LemonSoap, one of the most exciting young companies in Ireland today, delivering a show of such hilarious, unholy irreverence it’s practically spiritual. ” – Arts Review
"I am so very delighted to present Beards to the world. I am excited to stage these queer stories of family, belonging, and resilience in the Medieval ages, a period where queer people are often left out of the zeitgeist.”
