Opera: Possession at Cork Midsummer Festival
21 - 23 Jun 2024 (Past)
A new opera from artist Amanda Coogan and composer Linda Buckley along with collaborators Alvean Jones, Lianne Quigley and the Cork Deaf Community Choir.
Based on a script from the deaf artist Teresa Deevy telling the story of An Táin through the eyes of Queen Medb, combining Irish Sign Language with experimental sonic and vocal composition, this immersive production explores one of Ireland’s foundational myths with a fresh perspective on diversity in storytelling, connecting our past with our future.
Following last year’s Ode To Joy, this project continues Amanda’s ongoing collaboration with Cork Deaf Community Choir. Amanda Coogan is an internationally recognised and critically acclaimed artist working across the medias of live art, performance, photography and video. She is one of the most dynamic and exciting contemporary visual artist’s practicing in the arena of performance.
Possesion runs from June 21 to 23 at Granary Theatre, for booking information visit corkmidsummer.com.
