Music: Inaugural Performance of the Open Youth Orchestra of Ireland
29 Sep 2019 (Past)
Inaugural Performance of the Open Youth Orchestra of Ireland celebrating accessibility, impact and innovation in ensemble music performance in Ireland.
The Open Youth Orchestra of Ireland (OYOI) is the first disability-led orchestra in the island of Ireland, and one of the first in Europe.
Its founding is the next stage of the Le Chéile programme, a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s National Creativity Fund.
The OYOI’s music output comes from the creative and collaborative use of conventional musical instruments blended with the latest adaptive music technology, producing a cutting-edge, highly original and contemporary sound. The orchestra unites through the scientifically proven gestural system Conductology*, created by Dr. Denise White of Ulster University.
*Conductology involves all members of an ensemble agreeing on 18 gestures before they play together – building confidence and enhancing communication.
