Irish Film Institute

Following the critical and commercial success of Room (2015), director Lenny Abrahamson returns with this adaptation of the novel by Sarah Waters.

Following the Second World War, Dr. Faraday (Domhnall Gleeson) returns to practice in his home village. Intrigued by Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked as housemaid, he strikes up a relationship with its occupants, the Ayres family: Roderick (Will Poulter), Caroline (Ruth Wilson), and their mother (Charlotte Rampling).

As he becomes more entwined in their lives, the secrets of the family and Hundreds Hall are slowly revealed in a meticulously crafted drama infused with airs of the gothic.

There will be Open Captioned (OC) screenings at 13.00 on Sunday 23rd and 20.40 on Wednesday 26th September, 2018.
See www.ifi.ie or call 01 679 3477 for details of Audio Described screenings.

The first time I saw Hundreds Hall was July 1919. Nothing could have prepared me for the spell it cast. When I saw the house again thirty years later, I could hardly comprehend the change in the place.
