Film: Mother! at the Irish Film Institute (audio described and captioned)
25 Sep 2017 (Past)
A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.
Director Darren Aronofsky returns to the fertile terrain previously explored in Black Swan (2010) with the psychological horror of Mother!, in which Jennifer Lawrence plays a young woman slowly unravelling when the idyllic existence she shares with her husband (Javier Bardem) in their refurbished and remote dream house is interrupted by the arrival of uninvited guests (Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer).
Disturbed by their presence, she succumbs to paranoid behaviour that may not be entirely unjustified. As with Black Swan, metaphor and unsettling imagery are rife throughout the film, anchored by a performance from Lawrence that fully realises the darkness of the material.
Open Captioned screenings: Tuesday, September 19th (13.20) and Monday, September 25th (18.20)
Audio Description will be available for all screenings.
