Dance: Chora at Dublin Dance Festival
13 May 2025, 7:30 pm
Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Grand Canal Square, Docklands, Dublin
Ireland’s all-island dance company makes its highly anticipated debut to open Dublin Dance Festival 2025 with Chora, a triple bill of new dance works by acclaimed choreographers Maria Campos and Guy Nader, Liz Roche, and Mufutau Yusuf.
Luail’s new ensemble of exceptional dancers joins forces with the Irish Chamber Orchestra for a vibrant exchange between dance and live contemporary and baroque orchestral works. Responding to the title Chora – an ancient Greek term that refers to space as both a physical place and an abstract idea – each piece in this captivating show draws on themes of home, memory and landscape, creating unique atmospheres of imagined possibilities, spaces, and timelines.
With set and costume design by Katie Davenport and lighting design by Sinéad McKenna, Chora sees the dancers and musicians draw on their bodies, instruments, and ultimately, each other. This seamless interplay of movement and sound weaves a powerful expression of connection and the transformative impact of the shared environments we inhabit.
