Creative Connections: Arts and Disability Conversation and Showcase 2016

Audio Description for live performance is a live verbal commentary providing information on the visual elements of a production as it unfolds, from sets, props and costumes to actors’ facial expressions and movements across the stage.
ISL Interpreted
Irish Sign Language (ISL) is the sign language used in the republic of Ireland. The language makes use of space and involves movement of hands, body, face and head. A sign language interpreter interprets what a person says or signs simultaneously, or immediately afterwards.
Speech to Text
Speech to Text is a process of converting speech into text.
Loop System
Induction loops and infrared systems enable people with hearing aids to receive amplified sounds from within a specific area directly into their hearing device, without interference from background noise being amplified too.

Creative Connections offered an unprecedented opportunity to explore issues and share ideas around arts and disability.

Leading thinkers in the arts sector from across Ireland and the globe explored arts practice, professional development, support, programming, access to the arts, leadership, advocacy and policy.

Betty Siegel: Director of VSA and Accessibility at John F Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, Washington D.C.
Emma Bennison: CEO of Arts Access Australia, musician and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities
Hannah Goodwin: Manager of Accessibility at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Ana Rita Barata: Choreographer and Artistic Director of Vo’Arte Association in Portugal

The conference included:

Creative Connections also featured a showcase and after party, with performances from critically acclaimed Irish and international artists. Topped off by a night at the hugely successful Club Tropicana, produced by That’s Life from Galway.
