Applications are now open to apply to create an artwork to be sited on Dunkettle Interchange, deadline 12 August 2025.
The Commissioner, Cork County Council, supported by a Public Art Management Group, comprised of representatives from Cork City Council, Cork County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland, invites expressions of interest from artists who wish to be considered for creating, fabricating and installing an artwork at the Dunkettle Interchange, Cork City.
This is a major opportunity to create an artwork to be sited on one of the busiest road junctions in Ireland. The vision for this artwork is that it should be artistically ambitious and become a landmark piece.
About the Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade Scheme and Budget
The Dunkettle Interchange is a major road junction in Cork City, Ireland. It forms a junction between the M8, N25 and the N40. In February 2024 the rebuilt interchange, costing €215 million, was officially opened.
The Budget for the commission is €375,000. This includes all costs related to the artwork(s): fees, research and development, meetings, professional fees, materials, installation, insurance, travel and any other expenses incurred in the creation, design and production of the artwork(s) including any duties, VAT or taxes. The Commissioner has made provision for costs of a basic foundation and siteworks access, and traffic management for the artwork installation. Funding for the commission is provided through Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
Information and How to Apply
This is a two-stage open-call commissioning process as provided for in Public Art: General National Guidelines.
The first stage consists of an expression of interest and pre qualifying shortlisting round, with Stage 2 being a detailed proposal and costed submission. The stage 1 deadline is 12 noon Tuesday 12 August 2025.
The Commissioner is seeking to engage with an artist or artist led team, who will be contracted, to create, fabricate and install a large-scale landmark, durable, permanent artwork that is bold and imaginative.
