The watercolour painting 'Aimée' by Marie Le Men, featured in Profiles Issue 3, features a woman sitting by a bed covered in red and pink checkered sheets. She has a distinctive hairstyle with braided hair and is wearing a colourful outfit that combines geometric patterns. Asleep next to her on the bed is a ginger cat.

Opportunity: Profiles

Posted: 11 March, 2025

Profiles welcomes character-driven fiction and non-fiction — both original works and works in translation — between 1,000 and 5,000 words for Issue 4 is open until March 18.

Profiles are interested in publishing character studies. They love short stories and works of non-fiction that treat their subjects with empathy, without bordering on apologia, and show human nature as it is, not necessarily as it should be. To get a sense of what they are after, they recommend reading past issues of Profiles.

Profiles feature work from writers living in Ireland and abroad. Due to the high volume of submissions they receive and our limited resources, they regret that they cannot accept submissions of original writing from residents of the US or Canada (with the exception of Irish citizens). However, translators living in these countries are welcome to submit.

Profiles especially welcome submissions from writers who are underrepresented in the arts due to their ethnicity, socio-economic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or age.

Profiles also publish visual art and are happy to accept submissions of artwork and writing from the same individual over the course of one submission period. However, please submit them using separate forms, unless they are part of the same project (in which case please use the writing submission form and combine your artwork and written piece in a single document).

The deadline to apply is March 18.

Ensure you read the guidelines in full before submitting your work — they are also available in OpenDyslexic font.
