Visual Arts: Crocodile Sky at Wexford County Council

28 Mar - 19 May 2017 (Past)

Wexford County Council

Curated by invited artist Dominic Thorpe, Crocodile Sky brings together highly accomplished poetry and visual artworks from 40 artists and writers in Wexford.

Vibrant colourful paintings, drawings and sculptural works from CUMAS, KTAC and WRIDS deal with an array of subject matter from the visual to the ritualistic, from the dreamlike to the political. Poetry from KTAC (Killagoley Training and Activation Centre) exploring the observational and the deeply personal is printed on the large glass panels throughout the County Council building offering audiences new opportunities to engage with poetry.

Crocodile Sky celebrates dedicated prolific practices which have evolved through participation in the Arts Ability programme; an exemplary model of partnership involving the Arts Department of Wexford County Council, the Arts Council, HSE Disability & Mental Health Services and partner venues.

Theses venues are: Killagoley Training and Activation Centre, Enniscorthy (KTAC), County Wexford Community Workshop, New Ross (CUMAS) and Wexford Residential and Intellectual Disability Services (WRIDS).

Arts Ability: Now in its 15th year, Arts Ability is an ambitious long term multidisciplinary arts programme supporting artists in theses three centres to work with a dedicated team of highly skilled professional artists/ facilitators in the areas of painting, drawing, writing, sculpture, film and ceramics.

The groups (three visual arts and one writers group) are led by artists Declan Kennedy (CUMAS) Kathleen Delaney (KTAC & WRIDS) and Sylvia Cullen (KTAC) as well as invited guest artists throughout the year. The programme fosters an inclusive, person-centred arts programme which aims to celebrate the creative imagination of all involved and is supported by a dedicated team of committed staff members.

The exhibition will be opened by Cllr Paddy Kavanagh, Cathaoirleach, Wexford County Council.
Guest speaker: Sinead O’Reilly, Head of Local Arts & Arts Participation, Arts Council.
Poetry readings by writer John Doyle and artist Thomas Martin.

1.00pm – 2.00pm, Tuesday 28th March, 2017 at Wexford County Council, Carricklawn, Wexford.
