Theatre: Smashing Barrier’s Dead or Alive on tour

How far would you go to be in control of your life? If your freedom was threatened, would you fight? How far would you go to be in control of your life?

Dead or Alive is an epic adventure that challenges how disability is viewed in Ireland. It is an innovative theatre performance that tackles serious social change with high spirits, humour, and bank robbery.

Dead or Alive is a devised performance by the Smashing Barriers Drama Collective, an inclusive theatre project engaging with the barriers disabled people face in their daily lives, while also celebrating the participants’ richness of experience, tenacity, and humour.

In collaboration with Kate Harris, Theatre Maker, members of Smashing Barriers: Drama Collective created and scripted a play called ‘Dead or Alive’ that tells the story of disabled people in a different way and from a Social Model of Disability perspective. They first performed this play to a packed audience in Ballyfermot where they are based in 2018.

To celebrate UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities, join the Ballyfermot Chapelizod Disability Action Collective for Disability Equality workshops and post-show panel discussions with the actors, disability activists and the Irish Independent Living Movement along with the performances.
