The Emilie Conway Quintet performs Estrada do Sol at National Concert Hall

Music: Estrada do Sol by The Emilie Conway Quintet

4 May 2018 (Past)

John Field Room, National Concert Hall

The evocative melodies and grooves of the music from some of sunny Brazil’s most brilliant composers: Jobim, Powell, Buarque, Nascimento and Joyce.

Emilie Conway – voice
Johnny Taylor – piano
Paddy Groenland – guitar
Dave Mooney – bass
Andre Antunes – drums

There is an irresistible beauty to the evocative melodies, the soft sound of the Portuguese language, and the gentle grooves of bossa nova from Brazil – as well as the exquisite poetry of lyrics by artists like Vincius de Moraes. So enraptured was Emilie by this music as she experienced it among a rising Brazilian population in Ireland some years ago, that together with bassist Dave Mooney, Brazilian drummer Andre Antunes, and guitarist, Robson Rocha, she created the very popular Emilie sings Elis as a tribute to the singer, Elis Regina, who most famously brought this music to the world.

In this new concert, Emilie is delighted to re-imagine and share this beautiful music with you, together with her long-time collaborator, pianist, Johnny Taylor, guitarist, Paddy Groenland, (Ensemble Eriu, West African group Manden Express, RiZa) Bassist Dave Mooney, (Gavin Friday, Sarah Brightman, Jeff Ramsey, Al Jarreau Group) and Brazilian drummer, Andre Antunes, (Loah, Republic of Loose, Sinead O Connor, Amy Winehouse, Edu Ribeiro, Leo Maia)
