Crips without Constraints: A Play, A Podcast, A Picture

20 Apr - 5 Jul 2020 (Past)

Online

Over the next eleven weeks, Graeae will continue to celebrate the incredible talent, creativity and resilience of artists with disabilities, with an exciting new digital programme, Crips without Constraints, in three main strands

A Play – Mondays from 20 April
Shortly after the government announced a complete lockdown, Graeae commissioned eleven writers with disabilities to create one monologue each written in isolation. Some took on the current crisis, others eschewed the pandemic in favour of something completely different.

Each short monologue will be read by actors with disabilities from home and will be captioned and audio described.

A Podcast – Wednesdays from 22 April
Graeae will be releasing BSL interpreted versions of our ‘Disability And…’ Podcast series with Disability Arts Online. The original audio podcasts and accompanying transcripts can also be accessed here.

A Picture – Fridays from 24 April
To celebrate the careers of artists with disabilities Graeae have worked with over the last four decades, they’ll be re-releasing a picture from their archive, including work from the Graeae and Central Illustration Agency 2016 exhibition Reframing the Myth.

Check out the weekly programme here.

This digital programme is a collaboration between Graeae’s new writing department and Graeae Patron and acclaimed playwright Jack Thorne and supported by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
